Materials Science: Weekend Workshop Intensive

Weekend Intensive:  Friday 6-8pm, Saturday 10am - 4pm, Sunday 10am - 3pm

Instructor:  Michele Drozd

What IS clay, anyway?

Are you curious about the science behind clay bodies and glaze development?  Are you interested in learning how to make your own clay or glaze?  Have you ever wondered what would happen if you dug your own materials from the earth?  This course teaches the foundations and provides an overview of clay bodies, glaze calculation, raw materials and their functions, clay and glaze defects and solutions, and various firing processes.  This is a hands-on class that includes reading, lectures and experimentation.  Students will walk away with a deeper understanding of the materials they're using, the confidence to try new things, and the ability to troubleshoot basic problems in the studio.
